Love at first sight
I fell in love on Single’s Day:
I am going to live happily with obsidian ever after.
This is the first time that I became an early adopter for a project. It all felt like infatuation for me. I was exploring its features, sharing ideas on its forums and seriously contemplating about writing plug-ins for this software.
Love is irrational, but here are the few reasons that I made up anyways:
It supports linking and graph view. This is similar to Roam Research and takes a very different approach to traditional note-taking apps like OneNote and Evernote. Rather than trying to thinking of a structure for every single note, Obsidian allows you to indulge in writing because ultimately you will be able to capture the structure from the graph view. I finally feel like a spoiled child now (sorry mom).
It supports local storage and uses markdown, a plain text format that can be rendered to all kinds of colourful presentations. I wrote an article last year to commend on its benefits. In the case of the note-taking app, local storage implies privacy and markdown format indicates portability, both of which are features that I need. One reason that I did not sign up for Roam, for example, is because its export function is not great and I do not want to spend time building up a knowledge base that I cannot bring away with me.
It is free for non-commercial, personal use.
But just like any love, this passion blinded me for a couple of days and I could not concentrate as well as I used to be. This is something I need to change for the coming week: I will need to engage in deep work in the specified time and I will let you know how that goes.
It was all worth it though :")
Let me know what you think! I read and respond to every replies :D
